The Wistar Institute has an opening for a Visiting Scientist to join the laboratory of Dr. Maureen Murphy to study the p53 tumor suppressor protein using chromatin biology techniques and mouse models.  The lab studies the genetics of the p53 tumor suppressor protein. The laboratory work focuses on genetic variants of p53 that exist in populations of African-descent (P47S and Y107H) and Ashkenazi Jewish descent (G334R). This work seeks to understand the impact of these genetic variants of p53 on cancer risk and the efficacy of cancer therapy.

Candidates must have a PhD (or equivalent) degree or should be close to obtaining their doctoral degree. Expertise in genomics and pre-clinical models is strongly desired.

The Wistar Institute is located in the University City area of Philadelphia, in the heart of the University of Pennsylvania Campus.
