| A Special Sections Reporter uses basic facts to develop compelling, timely and well-sourced stories that accurately reflect the nature of the community or beat the reporter covers. This should be a combination of daily stories and projects undertaken in conjunction with a supervisor, as well as in advertising . This is an entry level position that requires a bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or equivalent experience; Two years experience at a smaller newspaper is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Strong organization/time management skills and focus on attention to detail. Essential Job Functions: Writing articles an columns about the Rockingham Count and Guilford County communities. Exhibiting strong news judgment, including fact checking and meeting deadlines. Adhering to the highest journalist ethics and standards. Maintaining a regular presence in the Reidsville Office, with some travel to the Greensboro location. Building and maintaining good relationships with community sources, officials and co-workers Generating ideas for articles and columns. Assisting with design elements, including photographs, for each article. sometimes, this may require taking photos or videos with a cell phone. Filing articles and columns on our website Undertaking any project as assigned by supervisors Knowledge of Associated Press (AP)style Valid N C Driver's License and automobile insurance Flexible daily work schedule |
