Liberty POST is currently seeking a motivated and energetic Early Childhood Classroom Aide for part time employment to work with children who are 18 months-3 years old through Early Intervention and Preschool Special Education programs. Immediate positions are available throughout Rochester.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Classroom Aide/One to One Aide is under the supervision of the Special Education Teacher and assists in the smooth and efficient operation of the classroom environment, including organizing, implementing and teaching developmental skills to students ages three to five. 

 

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:  

    • Assists Special Education Teacher, classroom Speech Pathologist, and Classroom Assistant, as well as the Director and Program Coordinator as required.
    • Assists in classroom setup and implementation of age appropriate activities in the areas of literacy, art, language, cognitive development, science, nutrition, music, dance and dramatic play.
    • Assists Classroom Assistant in maintaining the classroom schedule when the Special Education Teacher is not in class.
    • Supervises and is actively involved with students, attends to their individual needs, and fosters positive behaviors and actions.
    • Works closely with preschool student as assigned, and provides support for the student enrolled that enables them to fully participate in classroom activities.
    • Assists in the implementation of each student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP) goals and objectives.
    • Responsible for student’s health and safety at all times, and is aware of emergency procedures as they relate to the classroom
    • Sets up daily classroom materials as specified by Teachers, prepares and presents displays of student work, and prepares bulletin boards inside and outside of the classroom.
    • Acquires materials needed for classroom use from supply closet, from other classrooms, or from donations.
    • Assists with the care and maintenance of equipment and site, including daily cleanup of activities, toys, materials and classroom, as well as scheduled site maintenance.
    • Prepares and cleans up daily snack.
    • Assists students with self-help activities, including but not limited to changing soiled clothes and diapers.
    • Assists in bus and classroom arrival and departure.
    • Checks book bags upon arrival and informs the teacher of any parent correspondence.
    • Assists in maintaining classroom attendance sheet and therapy attendance sheet for the office and administration.
    • Treats all students with dignity and respect, and follows discipline procedures as outlined by Classroom Procedures.
    • Assists and supports the toilet training process with all students.
    • Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with parents/guardians, attends parent/child events as designated, and directs sensitive issues regarding students as appropriate.
    • Completes all required paperwork in an accurate and neat manner.
    • Adheres to all established policies, procedures and code of ethics, and maintains a strict policy of confidentiality.
    • Attends and participates in staff meetings, training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth as required.
    • Demonstrates willingness and takes initiative to expand knowledge of skills, learning styles and other information that will enhance level of support and the education of students and parents enrolled in the program.
    • Performs related duties as may be required.

 

 

 

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Outlook; and Microsoft Windows.

Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour
